Last images of Fall

Well we are heading into winter at an alarming rate!
Here are just a few last images of Fall colour before the bare trees of
Winter are here for the next few months.

CSA Box #20

Well this is the last box of the season. : (
It was a great program & I will definitely do it again next year.
It feels right to support the local farmers & get good fresh produce in return, it
is a win/win situation. I got to try vegetables that I don't usually buy &
tried lots of new recipes too.

I live in a town just outside of a major city, that has grown and become a city
itself. Since we moved here 12 years ago, the population has tripled from 100,000
to over 300,000! There was a lot of farm land & slowly some of the farmers have sold their land to developers & retired from farming wealthy people.
I don't begrudge them their due but it is sad to see all this farm land turn into
sub-dividsions full of cookie cutter houses so close together they might as well
be attached to each other. I guess this is the price we pay for progress...

Looking forward to a new season next year.   : )

CSA Box #19

Well we're getting to the end now. Second last box for the season.
As a bonus we got to pick a free pumpkin! So we picked this big green beauty!

Who became this guy!

I'm trying new recipes with all these vegetables.
I had never tried Kale before & now I make it sauteed with olive
oil & salt. Yum. Made a delicious hearty roasted carrot & parsnip
soup with chile powder. Awesome & filling, just what you
need on a cold rainy night like we've been having lately.  : )
