It's Halloween!

Got the pumpkins all carved & ready for the trick or treaters.
Unfortunately some people will not be having such a happy
Halloween due to the big storm Sandy. My thoughts are with those
who have been hit by this storm & hope you are warm & safe
with power restored & help received.

I don't have much carving skill. I keep the Jack o' Lanterns simple.
My son carved 2 & I carved the other 2. Can you guess which ones?

Happy Halloween! Boo!  : )

Halloween Decor Inside

There is a little more orange & black around the house in
festive touches here & there.

This little guy greets you at the front door.

A friend hand painted this cute cat gourd.

Seasonal coloured flowers on my table.

Everyone likes to dress up .  : )

CSA Box #18

The farm was really quiet when I picked up the box.
Not like last weekend which was Thanksgiving. It was packed!

Made some squash, parsnip & apple soup. Really easy & really tasty.
I've used the leeks in lots of things from soup to sautes.
I think those carrots will make a great carrot cake with cream cheese icing! : )

Doug's Birthday

Happy Birthday, Doug!
In honour of Doug's Birthday this year we did something we have
never done before.... stayed in a luxury hotel, downtown in our own city.
We stayed the night in the Fairmont Royal York.
It was wonderful. The bed was comfy, and the brunch the next day was excellent.

On his actual Birthday, which was a Wednesday, I made a special dinner
which included his favourite... Angel food cake.

Homemade cake & icing, yum.  : )

CSA Box #17

Another Fall harvest box. Lots of cold weather vegetables.
They make great hearty sides.

You can never have too many apples.  : )

Halloween Decor Outside

It's that time of year. The leaves are changing, the weather is getting colder,
& pumpkins are in season! This year I got white pumpkins to compliment the
purple cabbages. It makes a nice change.

I love the vintage look of these images.

I put bats in the garland around the front door.
Boo!  : )

Brown Dog Obsession #5

Here is another instalment of my brown dog obsession.
I love Steiff. I have a few small pieces from when I was a little girl,
before we knew to keep the tag in the ear. Oh well, it doesn't make them
any less loved by me. I got this bad boy on line from ebay.
He is a Chocolate lab of grand proportions, being 16" high. He is definitely one of my faves.

He is very loyal, never barks & smiles at me & I smile back.  : )

CSA Box #16

Only 3 more boxes...  : (
The produce at this time of year has a lot of squash
and root vegetables that make hearty sides & soups.

I made some really delicious Butternut squash lasagne with fresh sage.
Cooked the Brussel sprouts with onions, garlic & lemon.
Made a cranberry bread....YUMMY!  : )

HAIR!!!

I've always had a lot of hair. No danger of going bald here.
I would love to donate it for a wig.
Have to find somewhere that takes coloured hair...yes it is not
all natural, surprise! The curl is though.

What do you think? Time for a trim?  : )

CSA Box #15

Another box. This one has Doug's favourite....celery. (NOT!) LOL!
Already sauteed some mushrooms & onions for steak last night. YUM.

I don't cook a lot of squash, I will have to look up some good
recipes to try.  : )

Reveal #4

The fourth instalment of the Annie Sloan paint & wax
transformations is a little chair that we got at Ikea
years ago for the kids to stand on at the bathroom sink so they could reach
the taps & see in the mirror. Obviously it is no longer needed since they are grown
up, so it needed to be reinvented.

Before

After

I am going to mount it on the wall & use it as a shelf.  : )
